When numbers speak

Daniel Torchia

Monday, August 1, 2011

The numbers coming out of the 129th Knights of Columbus Annual Supreme Convention speak volumes: $154,000,000 in total donations and more than 70,000,000 hours of volunteer service - all in one year alone.
The numbers reveal a generous group of persons who care for others; an organization that gives tirelessly and selflessly; a faith community that works in tandem with its members, partners and God's Spirit to fulfill our calling to be His arms and feet on earth.

On this night, in Denver, thousands of men and women from all walks of life, cultural backgrounds and ages are gathering together to celebrate this inspiring and successful fraternal order. With them, an equally-large number of passerby and onlookers who are curiously watching the Holy Spirit at work, manifesting its powerful presence in this world. Welcome to the magic of the Knights.
In our world of eroding values, shallow business models and, at times, cacophonous chaos, the Knights of Columbus offer the world a radically exciting and promising vision of our human potential. A vision that was perfectly manifest in the person of Jesus.
As a husband and father, professional communicator and disciple of Christ, I say "amen" to these inspiring results  and the people and Charism behind them, and encourage everyone (and their relatives!) to look into joining or supporting the Knights of Columbus.
