Me? BLOG??

Mary Rose Bacani Valenti

Thursday, March 1, 2007

My Catholic Focus – Once Upon a Blog – airs tonight, March 1st at 7pm ET (with a Sunday 7pm ET repeat as well). I’ve had the sincerest pleasure of seeing a Catholic Focus that includes Rocco Palmo (author of Whispers in the Loggia), Cardinal Sean O’Malley (one of the premier blogging US Cardinals in Boston), Chris Valka (podcasting guru), and a teacher and four spunky girls from Cardinal Newman Catholic School in Brampton, Ontario, come to life.
My editor calls it a David-and-Goliath situation. David comes out with a pebble, and lands a giant! (I’m David and the pebble was the little pieces of my Focus. The giant is the final product).
Two things stuck with me from this Focus:
First, there are a gazillion sites from which you can download podcasts onto your ipod. I used to complain about not having enough time to listen to the news because I'm always busy or traveling. With podcasts I can listen to discussions, news or other interesting programs – both Catholic and non-Catholic -- from all over and at any time (not to mention that I can regularly download updates of these programs too!). To be honest, I don't even own an ipod, but I've never been more inclined to purchase one than after working on this episode.
Second, I loved it when Cardinal O'Malley said, "If St. Paul were with us, I think he would have a blog." I don't have my own blog site, but in the spirit of my dear friend, colleague, and avid blogger Pedro Guevara Mann, and other friends I know who are opening up their own sites (like Cale Clarke), I thought I would write an entry for our Salt+Light blog. So here it is: My first blog entry!
Well, it is what it is.
And I’m so happy to see that our Church is alive and blogging.
Over and out.
