There are a few things you need to know about Fatima: It is one of the main and most significant apparitions of Our Lady, the Virgin Mary. It took place in the town of Fatima, Portugal. There were 6 apparitions between May 13 and October 13, 1917. On these 6 occasions, Mary appeared to three shepherd children: Francisco and his sister Jacinta Marto and their cousin Lucia Dos Santos. During the apparitions, Mary told the children to pray the Rosary each day to bring peace to the world and to bring an end to the war. She asks them to pray for the conversion of Russia, to do penance and that God wanted the world to have a devotion to Her Immaculate Heart. The Fatima message emphasizes central truths and devotions of the Catholic faith: The Blessed Trinity, the Eucharist, penance, the Rosary and sacrifices for the conversion of sinners. After a canonical inquiry, the visions of Fatima were officially declared "worthy of belief" in October 1930 by the local Bishop of Leiria-Fátima.
