Join us as we joyfully share the story of the Holy Father's ministry and prophetic vision for the Church.
Pope Francis
Jorge Mario Bergoglio
Born: December 17, 1936
Elected Pope: March 13, 2013
On March 13, 2013, the world got its first glimpse of the 266th pope and the very first from the New World. Pope Francis, who until then had been Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Archbishop of Buenos Aires, spoke to the people of Rome as their new bishop and asked for their prayers before offering his very first apostolic blessing.
Few people knew it then, but the world was soon to discover that there was a great depth of meaning and intent behind the new pope's choice of name. Invoking the inspiring example of St. Francis of Assisi, since the very beginning of his pontificate, Pope Francis has consistently focused on our responsibility as a Church to reach out to and care for the poor, the marginalized, and the downtrodden, and he has continually called us to recognize and take to heart our role as stewards of God's Creation.
Here at Salt + Light Media, it has been a joy and a blessing to follow Pope Francis throughout the years, broadcasting many of his major events and travels on our network, and to live out the mission he calls us to through our original programming. Explore a wealth of blogs, videos, documentaries, and more on this page to learn more about Pope Francis and his impact on our Church and our world.

“Let us never forget that authentic power is service, and that the Pope too, when exercising power, must enter ever more fully into that service which has its radiant culmination on the Cross. He must be inspired by the lowly, concrete and faithful service which marked Saint Joseph and, like him, he must open his arms to protect all of God's people and embrace with tender affection the whole of humanity, especially the poorest, the weakest, the least important, those whom Matthew lists in the final judgment on love: the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick and those in prison.”
