OUR MISSION
Salt + Light Media is a Catholic media organization dedicated to proclaiming Jesus Christ and the joy of the Gospel through television, digital media, and community outreach. Inspired by the call to be “the salt of the earth and the light of the world” (Mt 5:13–14), we tell stories of hope that draw people closer to Christ and the Catholic faith. We seek a faith- driven professional to help renew and strengthen our fundraising programs with creativity, collaboration, and compassion.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This fractional leadership role (approximately 3 days per week or 24 hours total) is ideal for a seasoned fundraising leader who combines strategic vision with a mentoring and pastoral spirit. Reporting operationally to the Chief Operating Officer (COO/GM) and engaging with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on mission and donor strategy, the Director will guide the evolution of Salt + Light Media's fundraising work. The successful candidate will bring both professional expertise and a heart for ministry — fostering a collegial, supportive environment that encourages staff growth, creativity, and faithfulness to mission.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a mission-aligned fundraising strategy with the COO and CEO.
- Conduct a review of current fundraising practices and recommend improvements.
- Ensure strategies are both visionary and achievable within organizational capacity.
- Establish clear fundraising performance metrics, including measurable targets for donor retention, acquisition, and average gift size.
- Design and pilot at least one innovative fundraising initiative that is distinct from prior campaigns and demonstrates measurable donor engagement impact.
Team Mentorship & Collaboration
- Mentor and guide the fundraising team, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
- Strengthen coordination with marketing, communications, and production teams.
- Encourage innovation and shared learning across the organization.
- Provide structured mentorship through monthly group training sessions and periodic one-on-one coaching focused on campaign planning, donor stewardship, and data-driven fundraising.
Campaign & Donor Engagement
- Lead cost-effective annual and seasonal campaigns reflecting Salt + Light's Catholic mission.
- Support the CEO in donor engagement and cultivation.
- Introduce creative approaches to digital, community-based, and stewardship campaigns.
Multicultural Fundraising & Stewardship
- Strengthen donor communications and stewardship across English, French, Chinese, and other audiences.
- Collaborate with producers and regional teams (Toronto, Montreal, and Chinese-language departments) to design culturally and linguistically resonant donor strategies.
- Ensure materials and campaigns reflect the cultural and spiritual context of each community.
Organizational Integration
- Work closely with the COO/GM to align plans and operations with staff and leadership goals.
- Engage regularly with the CEO to ensure mission alignment and spiritual consistency.
- Contribute to a collegial, faith-filled culture rooted in mentorship and shared purpose.
- Provide quarterly progress summaries and a brief monthly update memo to the COO/GM and CEO, outlining campaign outcomes, donor engagement progress, and staff development activities.
- In collaboration with the COO/GM, establish measurable outcomes at the beginning of the role — such as donor retention, reactivation, or acquisition goals, growth in average gift size, and at least one innovative fundraising initiative. Progress will be reviewed quarterly and summarized in written updates and feedback sessions.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
- 7–10 years of progressive experience in fundraising or development roles.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing strategic fundraising plans.
- Proven ability to mentor and inspire teams in small or growing nonprofit environments.
- Deep understanding of the Roman Catholic faith and the Catholic donor community.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Collaborative, organized, and mission-driven.
- Bilingual (English/French) strongly preferred; experience with Salesforce is an asset.
