What is the lasting legacy of John Paul II?

legacyjpii.jpgPope Benedict XVI's trip to the United States last month evoked many comparisons between the current Pontiff, and that of his predecessor, John Paul II. It was unavoidable -- John Paul II was much beloved, was Pope for nearly thirty years, and touched the hearts of millions.
But it's also not fair to compare the two.
Pope John Paul II was a special gift for a specific time in history -- a point that Father Thomas Rosica makes during an interview on tonight's episode of Catholic Focus exploring the legacy of John Paul II.
In addition to discussing his relationship with the media, his love for the Communion of Saints, his title of 'Missionary Pope,' and his connection with youth, we also speak to a member of the University of St. Michael's College History department about John Paul II's involvement in the fall of communism, we sit down with a Rabbi who talks about his personal encounter with the then Pope, we comment on the Polish Pontiff's writings, and speak with an Ontario MPP who is working to have April 2nd proclaimed "John Paul II Day" in Ontario.
That's all on Wednesday's episode of Catholic Focus, airing at 7pm and 11pm ET, with an encore presentation May 18th -- John Paul II's birthday -- at the same times.
