unity1.jpgThis Friday marks the beginning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Mindful of this, in his Wednesday General Audience, the Holy Father said:
"It is indeed necessary to pray without ceasing, insistently asking God for the great gift of unity among all the Lord's disciples. May the endless strength of the Holy Spirit move us to a sincere commitment to seek unity, so that all together we may profess that Jesus is the one Saviour of the world".
The theme of this year's week is from Paul's First Letter to the Thessalonians: "Pray without ceasing." (1 Thessaonions 5, 17).
The Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches have provided reflections for each day of the week. They are as follows:
Friday, January 18th: Pray always. "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5, 17).
Saturday, January 19th: Pray always, trusting God alone. "Give thanks in all circumstances" (1 Thessalonians 5, 18).
Sunday, January 20th: Pray without ceasing for the conversion of hearts. "Admonish the idlers, encourage the faint-hearted" (1 Thessalonians 5, 14).
Monday, January 21st: Pray always for justice. "See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all" (1 Thessalonians 5, 15).
Tuesday, January 22nd: Pray constantly with a patient heart. "Be patient with all of them" (1 Thessalonians 5, 14).
Wednesday, January 23rd: Pray always for grace to work with God. "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5, 16).
Thursday, January 24th: Pray for what we need. ". help the weak" (1 Thessalonians 5, 14).
Friday, January 25th: Pray always that they all may be one. "Be at peace" (1 Thessalonians 5, 13b)
Some of our Focus episodes next week will also reflect the week of Christian Unity.

On Thursday, David Naglieri, explores the quest for unity between the Anglican Church and Rome. This episode features interviews with Fr. Damian MacPherson, head of Interfaith Affairs for the Archdiocese of Toronto, and a profile of the Traditional Anglican Communion. On Friday, you can join Gillian Kantor as she explores one of the pillars of our faith, and all Christian faith: Scripture. Join in a bible study and hear from guests, including Dr. Claude Auger of the Canadian Bible Society and Jeff Lockert, president of Catholic Christian Outreach!
On Wednesday and Saturday, Michele Nuzzo presents a new episode of Focus which explores three Catholic conferences, each with distinct messages yet united in the same spirit of new beginnings as Catholics come together to learn about their faith.
Catholic Focus airs every evening at 7pm and 11pm ET.
