On Wednesday, October 25, the Salt + Light Media original documentary Walking Together was awarded the Prix D'Excellence (Award of Excellence) from AMéCO, the Montreal-based Catholic and Ecumenical Media Association.
We are honoured to receive this recognition for Walking Together, which journeys with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit delegations to Rome for a series of audiences with Pope Francis in March and April 2022. The documentary centres on those meetings, during which the Holy Father apologized on behalf of Church leaders and institutions for the horrors of residential schools and their devastating effect on Indigenous communities in Canada. Fr. Alan Fogarty, S.J., CEO of Salt + Light Media, served as Executive Producer. It was written, produced, and narrated by Deacon Pedro Guevara-Mann.

Walking Together has been praised for its ability to earnestly describe the experiences of victims and the generations that followed, while also inspiring hope for reconciliation. One reviewer expressed that “The film leaves you with a strong sense that you not only should be a part of the solution but that you can be, and this is a gift.”
Above all, we are grateful to the survivors, their families, advocates, and Indigenous leaders who shared their stories with us for this documentary, and for their perseverance, faith, and courage. We are also grateful for the reception given to the follow-up film Walking Together: Into One Beat, which highlights the pope's apostolic visit to Canada in July 2022. It is our continued hope and prayer that these documentaries are a source of healing, reconciliation, and inspiration to survivors, First Nations, Inuit, and Metis communities, and to all Indigenous Peoples who experience oppression and its multi-generational effects.
You can read more about Walking Together in this press release.
Walking Together and Walking Together: Into One Beat are both available on-demand on Salt + Light Plus. Here is the original trailer:
