#TFImoments: Cardinal Kevin Farrell on
Pope Francis walking the talk

Sebastian Gomes

Thursday, July 12, 2018

Pope Francis’ words and actions have had a profound impact on countless people of various backgrounds, interests, and beliefs. In the interviews for my upcoming documentary, The Francis Impact, I’ve heard some beautiful and concrete testimonies of this. So I created #TFIMOMENTS, a web series to share some of these profound and personal moments of connection with the pope.
Bishop Kevin Farrell was shocked in August 2016 when he was plucked from Dallas, Texas, by Pope Francis to lead the new Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life at the Vatican. A few months later he was elevated to the College of Cardinals.
Since then, Cardinal Farrell has become known for his enthusiastic support of Pope Francis and his pastoral reforms in dealing with family life, especially as taught in Amoris Laetitia. In our new documentary, The Francis Impact, the cardinal provides important contextual commentary for the renewal of pastoral ministry in the Catholic Church, explaining that Francis is more concerned about individual people than with rules and regulations that sometimes create barriers.
When I asked the cardinal what the pope’s impact has been on him personally, he pointed to Francis’ gift of authenticity, of practicing what he preaches, of walking the talk… When we see Francis in action, it’s hard to argue with that!
