Among the notable elevations is His Beatitude Emmanuel III Delly, who, as the Patriarch of Babylon for the Chaldeans, represents embattled Christians in Iraq. Polish Bishop Ignacy Jez is being raised to the dignity of Cardinal posthumously, having died one day before Pope Benedict XVI’s consistory announcement.
For serious Vatican events fans, S+L will broadcast the “Ordinary Public Consistory for the Creation of New Cardinals”—where the Cardinals receive the scarlett biretta, a.k.a. the “red hat”—live at 4 AM. The first Mass, including the presentation of the cardinalitial rings, airs on Sunday morning at the same time.
