My Fond Memories of Love

Mary Rose Bacani Valenti

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

virtueslovecollage.jpgI invite you to join us for the season finale of The World I Know as we look at Love.
Love is such an over-used word in our society. We love pizza, we love our dog, we love Brad Pitt, we love rock music, and we love our best friend!
In the first segment of this show, we hear whom and what students love, and what they think about when they think of love. And then we hear from them what love is really about, and how love should be present in this world. You may even see some familiar faces from previous episodes. Because when you think about it, love should be at the root of everything we do. Love is the queen of all virtues, and rightfully so. As St. Paul says, “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” Host Emily Hilbig helps us put everything together in this first segment on “Love”.
The student of the day is Peter Morcos. Peter is one of the most courteous and sensitive people I’ve met. I remember our pre-interview over the phone, and how he sent me an e-mail beforehand with his own thoughts on love. For him, love should go deeper than a high school relationship, than a brother-to-brother relationship. Love should be Christ-like and transcend the boundaries even we put on ourselves.
The saint of the day is the great apostle St. Paul. From being a great enemy of Christians to one of the most zealous and well-known defender of Christianity, Paul was always someone who gave everything to whatever he believed in. And his love helped spread Christianity to the world! St. Hosea Rupprecht belongs to the Daughters of St. Paul, and she considers St. Paul as a “father”. She speaks about his struggle with his own personality, with dealing with the other disciples of Christ, and with dealing with the challenges of his mission of preaching. Pope Benedict XVI recognizes how timely St. Paul’s example is for us today and has dedicated a special Jubilee Year to St. Paul from June 28th, 2008 to June 29, 2009, marking the 2000 years of his birth. May we continue to walk on our journey of faith, invoking the aid of St. Paul and all the other saints in heaven!
The “Love” episode airs Tuesday, January 13th, the tenth and final episode of Salt + Light’s newest series, The World I Know: Virtues in Action. For more information on this series, check the Virtues webpage on our website by clicking HERE. And remember, if you miss the 8 pm ET broadcast, you can still catch it at midnight, or during your lunch break (12:30 pm ET) the next day via live streaming!
Don’t miss this season’s finale!
