One of the new cardinals named by Pope Francis is Archbishop Gerald Lacroix of Quebec City.
The 56 year old prelate was appointed to Quebec City in 2011, succeeding Cardinal Marc Ouellet was was asked to run the Vatican’s Congregation for Bishops.
Cardinal-designate Lacroix was born in Saint Hilaire de Dorset, Quebec, and spent a good portion of his childhood in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was ordained a priest in 1988 for the Secular Institute of Pius  X and spent about ten years as a missionary in Latin America.
In 2009 the Cardinal-designate was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Quebec City and ordained by Cardinal Marc Ouellet.
