KofC Phoenix: Life in Phoenix

aliciaphoeAs my colleagues mentioned in previous posts, a S+L team is in Phoenix, Arizona to cover the Knights of Columbus 127th Supreme Convention. This year's convention is taking place at the Desert Ridge Marriott in Phoenix. Whereas in previous years participants (and media) were spread out in various hotels around the host city, this year the hotel is large enough so that everyone can stay in the same hotel. The result is that we're living in what can only be described as the Knights of Columbus Village. At every turn there's a friendly Knight wearing a polo shirt proudly displaying his state and council number, and a wife wearing a matching shirt, both smiling brightly and saying "Hello" in one of the many regional accents. Coming from Toronto, this is a breath of fresh air. I can't remember the last time someone said "Hello" to me on the street.
On a practical note the weather here is gorgeous. Upon landing Sunday our pilot informed us it was 37 degrees Celsius. The local news is reporting that Phoenix is breaking weather records, and an extreme heat warning has been issued for this week. We'll try not to melt here as we bring you full coverage of this week's events.
