Through a variety of speakers, the Congress examined the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe from a scientific perspective, while also discussing her message, and its relevance to us today. Even a relic of St. Juan Diego's tilma was present -- the only relic of the tilma in the United States!
The Congress concluded with the family friendly Guadalupe Festival -- where 20-thousand people gathered to listen to speakers, pray the Rosary, and listen to musical performances in tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The Knights have a very extensive site on the Marian Congress. I recommend checking out the presentations
sections to read the text from the talks. In addition to the prayer
by Supreme Chaplain Bishop Lori, I highly recommend the presentation The Secret in Her Eyes
by Dr. José Aste Tonsmann. Though it's not the text of the Doctor's talk, it is six short videos in which he explains his research into the eyes of Our Lady of Guadalupe. A study of her eyes? It may seem insignificant, but for this particular image it is not only very important, but fascinating! Her eyes reflect 13 people -- including St. Juan Diego and the Bishop at the time! You can view the videos HERE
. For a more a spiritual and doctrinal account of Our Lady of Guadalupe, I recommend The Rich Doctrinal Content of the Nican Mopohua
by Dr. Deyanira Flores (HERE
). As Sister Flores writes:
...the service we render to the Blessed Mother has God's glory as its end. The Son wills His Mother's intervention, and Mary acts in full accord with her Son's Will. She refers to Him all the time and takes us to Him.
Check out the Congress website
