Holy Land: The Things You Think About Floating in Salt Water Covered in Mud

Matthew Harrison

I’m not a big swimmer, but I figured since I was at the Dead Sea I had to check it out.  Besides, I wouldn’t actually be swimming – but floating!  Curiously it wasn’t the floating that was the most exciting part for me – it was the mud!
Dead Sea mud is incredible!  After lathering up, leaving it on for a bit, and rinsing it off, my skin felt incredible.  A long, hot and dusty day was being brought to completion with a smoothing soak in the Dead Sea… floating away, sun setting, lathered in mud.
Kind of surreal, actually!
I find myself on this trip growing in appreciation for the land: soothing mud on sore feet.  Beautiful trees along the countryside providing us with nourishment in the form of mangos, pomegranates, and papayas.  Water – so essential, so necessary, so taken for granted.  God has really given so much to us in nature!  In our technologically advanced cities, we don’t realize how reliant we are on the land.  We forget.  This trip has been a pleasant reminder.
