Looking for those Black Friday deals? Hoping to save some cash when you shop on Cyber Monday? Thinking about how to use your extra money?
Or maybe you’re concerned about the frantic rush that happens around American Thanksgiving and the lead-up to Christmas, and looking for ways to focus your attention and resources on the common good as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Our Lord.
Either way, we've got you covered with GivingTuesday on November 28, the day after Cyber Monday. The beginning of Advent will only be days away, which makes this a great opportunity to take up the time-honoured practices of almsgiving, prayer, and fasting.
So, what is GivingTuesday? Here're some facts from the official page from Canada Helps:
  • It started right here in Canada in 2013. Canada Helps partnered with 14 other organizations that support nonprofits across the country.
  • GivingTuesday is now in over 80 countries around the globe, as they seek to “inspire generosity around the world” and “create a world where giving is part of everyday life.”
  • On GivingTuesday 2022, millions of Canadians showed up!
    • 47 Canadian organizations took part.
    • Online donations totaled $50.5 million.
    • Canadians gave 3,682 pounds of pet food.
    • Ontario alone had 83 new organ donors sign up!
That’s some amazing momentum! And you have the opportunity to join in this year, by contributing to charities, nonprofits, and faith-based and community organizations in Canada.
