Catholic Focus: Vatican City 101

Alicia Ambrosio

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

During my time living in Rome over the last decade, a funny thing happened. When I would return home for visits, my family, friends, and even Canada Customs agents would inevitably ask, "Hey, is it true that (fill in the blank with random question about the Vatican)?" My solution, finally, was to produce a Catholic Focus episode trying to answer some of the more common questions I would get asked about Vatican City.
Tonight that show goes to air. I had the chance to talk to the director of the Vatican's Post Office to answer the perennial question, "Is the Vatican Post Office really the best in the world?" I also met the Vatican Police, the Gendarmeria Vaticana -- who are actually rather camera-shy, but very informative -- to find out if the Vatican has a criminal code of law.
I was also introduced to the marvelous pediatric clinic in a hidden corner of the city where a team of doctors from Rome's Bambino Gesu' Children's hospital volunteer their time to provide free health care to children from low income families. One of these volunteer doctors has been working at the Vatican since World War II and shared some little known stories about Vatican City.
Tune in to Catholic Focus tonight at 7:05pm ET / 4:05pm PT for a peek behind Vatican walls.
