Canadian Youth Leader Appointed to International Youth Advisory Body

Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops

Wednesday, October 16, 2024

OTTAWA, 16 October 2024 – On 7 October 2024, the Vatican’s Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life announced the appointment of the new members of the International Youth Advisory Body (IYAB), composed of 20 young people from different regions across the world and several international movements, associations and communities.
Ms. Sally Yasmine from the Archdiocese of Montreal has been selected to serve as a member of the renewed IYAB. This appointment follows the call from the 2018 Synod, which emphasized the need to strengthen the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life’s Youth Office and establish a representative body for young people at an international level.
The members of the IYAB will serve as consultors to the Dicastery, offering insights and perspectives on youth ministry and related issues. This initiative aims to empower young people to articulate their concerns and ideas in their own language, as highlighted in Christus Vivit (no. 203). Their primary role will be to provide consultation and support in the development of youth-focused initiatives.
Young people are vital to the Church. Their faith, creativity, energy, and enthusiasm offer a powerful hope that has the potential to transform the world. Recognizing the significance of this topic and in response to the call from Christus Vivit, the CCCB released on 12 October 2022 a Pastoral Letter to Young People on the anniversary of Blessed Carlo Acutis' death. This letter, also in video format, aims to inspire young Catholics to embrace their faith in remarkable ways, urging them to pursue holiness and reassuring them of the unwavering support and guidance of their Bishops on their journey.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) congratulates Sally Yasmine on this important appointment and looks forward to the positive impacts she will have within the IYAB. The CCCB is dedicated to promoting youth involvement in the Church and acknowledging their essential contributions to the community.
