Pope Francis will make his third international journey since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and his 35th international pastoral visit since he became the successor of St. Peter.
This apostolic journey will take the Holy Father to Greece and Cyprus during December 2-6, 2021.
His visit will be guided by two unique mottos.
For the Greek leg of the journey, the motto is taken from a sentence in the 36th World Youth Day proclamation, “Let us open our hearts to the surprise of God, who longs to shine on our path”.
During the period affected by the epidemic and the consequences of the recent financial crisis, it is hoped that the pope's visit will bring a glimmer of light to the future of Greece.
The pope's motto in his visit to Cyprus is “Comforting each other in faith”, which reminds all the faithful that in order to dialogue we must maintain a sense of encounter and welcome.
As part of his 5-day visit, Pope Francis will meet with members of the Orthodox Church, participate in an ecumenical prayer event with migrants, and visit refugees on the island of Lesbos.
